CatalinBread BELLE EPOCH (EP3 tape echo emulation)
SKU:ae00-13191^BELLEEPOCH
Features:

INTRODUCTION Faithful sonic recreation of the EP-3 tape echo. Yes, including the preamp. “The Catalinbread Belle Epoch is the closest thing to a real EP-3 that I’ve ever played.”– Eric Johnson THE STORY The Catalinbread Belle Epoch Tape Echo, has tape echo sounds so authentic you’d swear there was tape inside the pedal! Inspired by the Maestro Echoplex, EP-3 model, perhaps the most famous tape delay ever, the Belle Epoch features everything we love about the EP-3 in a small, maintenance free pedal format. We felt that a “tape echo” pedal was much more than just a standard digital delay with some “filtering” on the repeats. There are a lot of subtle and not-so-subtle traits of the Echoplex that needed to be implemented in order to be authentic. The preamp, the self-oscillation character, the ability to control the “record level” of the signal hitting “tape”, the wow and flutter, the way the repeats decay, the way the circuit interfaces with the amp and other pedals – all these things were important to get right. The original unit was used as a musical instrument unto itself and this is what we captured with the Belle Epoch. OVERVIEW Preamp – Famous for making your guitar sound better even when the echoes are turned off. Quality of repeats – The Echoplex was not necessarily “hi-fi”. As the echoes repeated, the signal got progressively degraded, losing low end and gaining a shiny, percussive top end with a bit of grit. The first repeat is strong and then it gets more and more diffused as it repeats. And in a well-tuned unit, you could dial in the repeats “Echo Sustain” so that it would float almost indefinitely, or cross the threshold to self-oscillation Record level – There’s a control on the EP-3 that sets how hard the tape gets hit. While this control was ostensibly used to optimize signal-to-noise ratio, set low it would give light and airy repeats and set high it would saturate the tape hard and give an awesome fat and grungy repeat tone. Wow and flutter – We designed the Belle Epoch’s modulation control to simulate the daily mechanical irregularities inherent in original Echoplex units. This would typically include bumpy capstan wheels, uneven tape tension, uneven motor speed, humidity, and actual ghosts? Head drag – The original unit had a unique quality that when moving the delay time slider it took a moment to catch up to the adjustment, creating a doppler like effect. The Belle Epoch reproduces this behavior while you turn the echo delay knob.

Catalinbread DIRTY LITTLE SECRET (Marshall in a box)
SKU:ae00-13192^DIRTYLITTLESEC
Features:

INTRODUCTION Classic plexi to early 70s Marshall Super Lead and Super Bass sound and response “Clearly I get to play a lot of pedals and quite frankly I was stunned when I plugged this one in. It nails that classic Marshall tone.” – Andy Proguitarshop.com THE STORY Marshall amps helped supercharge the performance, and shape the sound of rock and roll. When the house lights dimmed, all you could see through the hazy darkness was the array of red pilot lights shining from a backline wall of Marshall stacks. It was the ultimate prelude to the impending rock. In the absence of your own personal wall of Marshalls and the necessary road crew required to lug them around, the Dirty Little Secret (DLS) is the perfect secret weapon in your tone arsenal. This is your “always on” pedal, designed to be the “foundation” of your pedalboard, transforming any amplifier into those raging British stacks. It forms the core of your guitar sound which you can enhance and embellish by adding boosters, fuzzes, filters, and other overdrives in front of it – just like you would in front of a real amp. And the reason you can leave it always on is that you can get a great clean sound just by rolling back your guitar’s volume knob! That’s the way the old school Marshall players did things! OVERVIEW Two classic circuits, selectable via an internal slider switch: Super Lead– The “Super Lead” mode gives you the great rock sound of a Marshall Super Lead amp with awesome harmonics, touch sensitivity, cab thumb, and kerrang. Higher gain than the Super Bass mode, Super Lead mode is perfect for use with humbucker-equipped guitars. It’s gain range goes from classic plexi all the way to modified JCM800 levels. And, just like a great plexi, you can go from clean to scream with just a twist of your guitar’s volume knob. Like a Super Lead, it’s voice is all about thump and upper-midrange kerrang. This is THE rock sound! Super Bass– The “Super Bass” mode gives you the tone and gain structure of a Marshall Super Bass (which is very similar to a JTM45, JTM50/100, or very early plexi). This mode was voiced to really hone in on that elusive in-between “not quite clean, not quite dirty” response that old tube amps were so good at getting. And it was specifically voiced to make fuzz pedals sound great (especially two-transistor based fuzzes like the fuzz face). Plug a Strat into a Fuzz Face with the DLS in SB mode and you’ll see what we mean! It’s voice is deeper bass, and an emphasis on the lower midrange band (in contrast to the Super Lead mode’s upper midrange emphasis) and sounds especially great with Fender style guitars. Tone stack -The DLS is two pedals in one. When you switch from SL to SB mode it completely reconfigures the tone stack and key first gain stage parameters to give authentic Super Lead or Super Bass type response. The SL/SB mode switch doesn’t just add a bit more bass to make it a “super BASS”. The treble-middle-bass tone control complement exactly reproduce the tone stack circuits of the Super Lead and the Super Bass amps. So when you switch from SL to SB mode, the tone circuit gets reconfigured to the Super Bass circuit. Mode Switch – The Super Lead and Super Bass are two remarkably different amps, and so the DLS is essentially two pedals in one….not a two channel pedal. When you switch between the two modes and explore the differences in the way the pedal reacts, you’ll see what we mean. You will hear the difference in the way the tone controls work, the way the gain character feels, and the way the overall frequency response sounds.

CatalinBread ECHOREC (Multi-tap Echo)
SKU:ae00-13193^ECHOREC
Features:

INTRODUCTION The resurrection of the legendary Binson Echorec multi-head drum echo “Driving force behind Pink Floyd’s Pompeii performance.” THE STORY The Binson Echorec was so cool we had no choice but to bring it back. And we wanted to bring it back right. We wanted to take all the goodness of that huge Binson Echorec and squeeze it down into a standard sized stompbox without losing anything. In fact, in addition to not losing any of the qualities that made it such a compelling musical device, we wanted to EXTEND its capabilities because the original Binson hinted at possibilities that it couldn’t realize. We’re talking about variable delay time! We thought, “What if we had the same four playback head concept but could stretch the delay time out beyond the 300mS of the original Binson?” Then the rhythmic patterns suggested by the various combinations of those four playback heads could really come to life! OVERVIEW The Swell knob controls the number of repeats regenerated – from a single repeat of each playback head to infinite repeats. The Tone control tilts the EQ of the repeats from dark and fat to bright and thin. Dark settings makes the repeats sit in the background. Bright settings emphasizes the attack, great for playing off the syncopated rhythms of the multi-head arrangement. The original Echorec had a maximum delay time of 300ms. The delay time on the Catalinbread Echorec goes from about 40ms -1000ms. And the cool thing is you can twist the Delay Time knob in real-time to get speeding-up / slowing-down, spaceship warp landing sounds! Mix knob goes from full dry to full wet giving a lot of flexibility to use the Echorec in a variety of situations, even wet/dry rigs by setting the Mix full wet. The original Echorec had a 12 position switch which controlled the various playback head configurations. Since the original was mechanical with the disc only able to go one speed, not all combinations were available for use. The Catalinbread Echorec changes all that. With the ability to vary the delay time on the single playback head, we were able to include all combinations, which include rhythmic patterns not available before. EXPERIENCE Here’s a quick rundown so you can get some playing time in before coming back and reading the full story. And please do come back and read the rest of the guide! It will help you more fully appreciate what the Echorec can do for you and give you a bit of history! Plug in your guitar, Echorec, and amp. Set your amp clean for now. Don’t put it on your pedalboard just yet, just play it by itself to get familiar with it! Set Swell to minimum, Tone to noon, Delay Time to noon, Mix between 9:00 and noon, and set Program Select anywhere you fancy. Now play your guitar and flip through the Program Select. This control allows you to select the playback head combinations. Program 1 is a single tap and Program 12 is all four heads. And in-between are all the cool combinations that give you some famous and soon-to-be-famous rhythmic pulses (you will write a song before the night’s out – guaranteed! ?? ) A good way to check out the head combinations is to flip to a Program and mute your strings and rake them once so you can hear the distinct rhythmic pulses each Program creates. Now start turning the Swell control up and be greeted with a beautiful wash of swirling repeats. We know you’re having fun now. You’re welcome! Don’t forget to try playing soft passages followed by loud ones so you can get a feel for the touch sensitive dynamics of the Echorec’s preamp. It breathes with your playing! OK, now that you’ve undoubtedly already got a riff for that new song you’ve been meaning to write for the past six months, take a break and sit down to read the rest of the user guide!

Catalinbread FORMULA NO. 55 (Vintage Fender Tweed Amp)
SKU:ae00-13194^FORMULA55
Features:

INTRODUCTION Next-generation 5E3 Tweed Deluxe inspired Foundation Overdrive with incredible range – from Grant Green to Crazy Horse! OVERVIEW Turn your amp into a 100 watt tweed Deluxe! Well no, but that’s what it’ll feel like when you plug into your new Catalinbread Formula No. 55! Big and powerful, yet refined, the Formula No. 55 melts into your amp, transforming it into a wide ranging tweed monster capable of everything from smokey, clean Grant Green jazz tones all the way to full on raging Crazy Horse excursions! The old amps from the 50s were primitive beasts and the 5E3 Deluxe was no exception. Its preamp section let a lot of low frequencies through but then it would encounter an output section (power tubes, output transformer, and speaker) that couldn’t handle all that low end, often resulting in a flubby response, especially if you turned the Volume up. In fact, if you look at the manual from an old 50s tweed, it advises you to “turn down the Volume should you experience any distortion”. Of course, a lot of guitarists ignored that advice and cranked it up anyway, much to Leo’s chagrin, and the sound of rock was born. The Formula No. 55 gives you that huge low-end response but was specifically voiced for touch-sensitive dynamics and a fat, but tight and punchy sound. You can play a palm-muted boogie-woogie rhythm pattern, for example, and if you don’t bear down too hard with your picking attack you’ll get a big chunky, woody sound, the kind of sound that you’d think would flub out if you suddenly started strumming harder. But start thrashing away and the response will get tighter instead of flubbing out! You just have to try it for yourself to see! The Formula No. 55 is a Foundation Overdrive that reproduces, in exacting detail, the preamp section of the classic FenderTM tweed 5E3 Deluxe using an all-discrete JFET-based signal path. The Volume and Tone controls replicate, part for part, the circuitry of the 5E3, giving you authentic tweed amp response. The output section is designed to give you lots of punch and volume with a low output impedance to drive your amp perfectly. Set the Hi-Lo button to “Lo” for the cleaner response of a vintage tweed. “Hi” is like hot rodding your amp by swapping in higher gain tubes. Like all Catalinbread pedals, no SMD parts are used for audio circuitry. Only through-hole components selected for tone and response are used such as carbon composition resistors and premium capacitors. We hand-build them and we tone-test each one to ensure you get the best we can offer. CONTROLS: Volume: From warm fat jazz clean to thick horn-like barking overdrive. Tone: Noon for flat. Turn down for warm, smokey tones. Turn it up to boost upper mids and cut through the mix. Presence: Adjusts ~ 5khz range. Set to noon to start. Turn it up for more bite! Turn it down to warm things up. Master: Sets output level. Lots of boost on tap. Hi-Lo Button: Hi/Red: Like swapping in hotter tubes, for more gain, overdrive and attitude. Low/Green: Low gain mode from clean to overdrive

Dunlop JB95 BONAMASSA WAH-EA
SKU:ae00-12945^JB95
Features:

Whether he's blazing through the blues on his own or rocking with Black Country Communion, Joe Bonamassa's playing is fiery, deep, and powerful. And when he really wants to express himself in a solo, he steps on a Cry Baby wah. That's why we at Dunlop worked with Joe to develop the Joe Bonamassa Signature Cry Baby, specially engineered to fit in perfectly with Joe's system, from the way it looks to the way it sounds. On the outside, it sports a classy copper top with a smooth-finish black body. On the inside, it features large, vintage-style thru-hole components, a Halo inductor (for added harmonic content), an output buffer (to prevent impedance imbalance with vintage fuzz pedals), and a switch for true-bypass or non-true-bypass operation (Joe prefers non-True Bypass as it darkens the high end). With its huge vocal sweep range, this is one of the most expressive Cry Babys ever, and it's Joe's tool of choice to accentuate every soulful bend and bluesy wail. The first pedal I ever purchased was a Cry Baby, 25 years ago, he says. I am so honored to have my name on this pedal and hope it brings you as much fun as it brings me every night on stage.

Dunlop JC95 CANTRELL WAH-
SKU:ae00-12946^JC95
Features:

One of the most influential guitarists to come out of the Seattle rock scene, Jerry Cantrell's epic riffs and searing tone have been the driving force behind Alice in Chains since the late 80's. His melancholy wah-drenched melodies in modern classics like Man in the Box and The Rooster left an indelible mark on a generation of guitarists. Jerry favored wah-wahs with a wider, darker response, and Dunlop has painstakingly replicated that moody sound to create his signature pedal. It's custom-voiced for a tight, punchy heel-down tone and a rugged side-control knob lets you fine tune the toe-down frequency. And with its antique, oxidized road worn brass casting and custom Alice in Chains tread, this is one pedal that looks as great as it sounds.

ECHOPLEX DELAY
SKU:ae00-13185^EP103
Features:

The Echoplex EP-3 tape echo unit is famous for its deliciously warm, organic modulation and sweet musical voice-a key component to some of the most iconic guitar tones from the '70s onward. The original EP-3 units, however, are expensive, temperamental, and larger than a VCR. That's where the EP103 Echoplex Delay comes in. It's the size of a Phase 90, and it delivers the EP-3's legendary tones with a simple control interface and a hi-fi all-analog dry path. The Delay control sets the time between repeats-from 40 to 750ms-the Sustain control sets the number of repeats, and the Volume control sets the output level of your repeats. Where the sound of this pedal really shines, though, is in Age mode. By default, your pedal performs as a perfectly-calibrated, factory-fresh tape echo machine would- bright and clear tape with subtle wow and flutter modulation. A quick push of the Volume knob lets you age the sound of your repeats, darkening the tone, upping the tape saturation (distortion), and increasing modulation and tape distress as you turn the knob clockwise. The EP103's delay signal gets the same tonal conditioning that the EP101 Echoplex Preamp provides, while the dry path is left untouched. For the full EP-3 experience, put that secret sauce on your dry signal by running the EP101 in front of the EP103. The Echoplex Delay also features tap tempo functionality, for up to 4 seconds of delay time, when you hook up an M199 MXR Tap Tempo Switch. The dry path is all analog with Constant Headroom TechnologyTM—providing a full 20 volts of headroom—and a choice of true relay or trails bypass. The EP103 can be set for 100% wet mode along with stereo input and output modes. No tape cartridges required!
